Government Incentives for Residential Solar in Thailand (2026 Update)

Two government programs currently help Thai homeowners get more out of a rooftop solar system.

As of September 2026, homeowners in Thailand have two separate ways to get value back from a rooftop solar system.

Program 1

The "Solar Phak Prachachon 2026" Program — Selling Your Excess Electricity Back

Run jointly by PEA and MEA, this program buys the electricity your solar system produces but you don't use.

Who can applyResidential (Type 1) electricity account holders with PEA or MEA, with an electricity bill from the last 3 months, who fund the installation themselves.

Maximum system sizeUp to 5 kW (AC) per household meter.

Buy-back rate฿2.20 per kWh of excess electricity exported to the grid, under a Net Billing arrangement.

Contract length10 years.

Application window1 July 2026 – 30 November 2027, or until the national quota is filled — whichever comes first.

National quotaUp to 500 MW combined across PEA and MEA areas — applications are accepted first-come, first-served.

Inspection fee฿2,140 (incl. 7% VAT) for the system inspection.

How to applyOnline — via ppim.pea.co.th in PEA areas, or myenergy.mea.or.th in MEA areas (Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan).

Program 2

Under Royal Decree No. 805 (B.E. 2569), individuals who install solar on their own home can deduct the cost from their personal income tax.

Maximum deductionThe actual amount paid for equipment and installation, capped at ฿200,000 per person per system.

Effective period3 March 2026 – 31 December 2028.

Key conditionsThe system must be installed on the roof, deck, or part of a residential building you actually live in, and connected to the grid (On-Grid) through PEA or MEA. The deduction can be used once, in the tax year the connection is completed.

Documents you'll needAn e-Tax Invoice from your installer, and proof the system is connected to the grid.

How to claim itReport the deduction on your annual personal income tax return (P.N.D. 90/91).

Before You Apply

The buy-back program has a limited national quota — once it's filled, applications close early, regardless of the published end date.
Rates, deadlines and conditions for both programs are set by government notice and can change — always confirm the current details with PEA, MEA, or the Revenue Department directly before you commit.
